Nonprofit Road to Hire Joins OneTen’s Mission to Close the Opportunity Gap for Black Talent in America

Road to Hire joins OneTen’s roster of Talent Developers to continue supporting young adults in tech

September 28, 2021 - Road to Hire (R2H), a nonprofit that connects under-resourced and underrepresented young adults with non-traditional pathways to careers in tech, announced today the organization will join forces with OneTen, a coalition of CEOs working to see one million Black Americans hired into family-sustaining jobs with opportunities for advancement within the next decade. Road to Hire will join OneTen’s tech platform as an Endorsed Talent Developer to help accelerate OneTen’s mission of promoting one million Black Americans in the next ten years.

The network of OneTen talent developers represents leading local, regional, and national education and skill-building organizations that support diverse talent without four-year degrees to identify, develop and build high-value skills. As a talent developer, Road to Hire will be able to connect the non-profit’s bootcamp-style tech apprenticeship graduates with OneTen’s employer partners, including Nike, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Berkshire Hathaway, Allstate, and more. Ultimately, enabling Road to Hire to advance their mission of connecting under-resourced young adults, often limited by financial barriers and systemic racism, with onramps to career opportunities through tech training in high schools, college scholarships, paid apprenticeships, mentorship and job placement for in-demand careers.

“We’re extremely proud to join forces with a coalition like OneTen, who is as passionate and tenacious in making the workforce more equitable and accessible as we are,” said Kacey Grantham, Executive Director of Road to Hire. “Through our shared commitment to skill development and tech job access, we’re proud to work alongside OneTen with the common goal of removing structural barriers that disproportionately affect young Black Americans.”

Road to Hire’s success to date highlights how the non-profit is well-positioned to support OneTen’s mission. Graduates of Road to Hire’s paid 6-month, Apprenticeship program are placed in tech careers with a starting salary of $50,000 or higher, with a retention rate of 95% in participants’ first year employed. Also, 87% of Apprenticeship alumni are promoted within two years.

“We look forward to having Road to Hire join us as an Endorsed Talent Developer to support us in our mission to hire and advance one million Black talent in the next ten years,” said Maurice Jones, Chief Executive Officer of OneTen. “This effort will require a high functioning, multi-disciplinary coalition from corporate America, talent developers, Black talent, talent supports, and others, and it is crucial we have high quality partners like Road to Hire on that team. We are grateful for the work they have already done and are excited to partner with them going forward.”

Road to Hire also recently received a $200K grant from the Cognizant Foundation to continue their work of creating equal opportunities for all within tech. By joining forces with OneTen and the Cognizant Foundation, R2H is supported to offer more paid apprenticeships and college access/scholarships to underrepresented young adults in tech without college degrees and support the nonprofit’s growth. Road to Hire’s upcoming growth plans include growth in Austin, Atlanta and Richmond.
